Editting/Creating Text Files
Editting Text Files
A text file is the simplest of all files. It is a lot like a MS Word document, except that it does not contain any formatting commands like Bold or Underline, etc. it contains only raw text. There are many ways to create or edit a text file. Here is one way.
Notepad
Open "Notepad", which is usually found in MS Windows under START - PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - NOTEPAD. Type the text that you wish to appear as the caption for this photo and select "SAVE" in the "File" menu.
You then need to navigate to the location of your corresponding photo and name your new text file with the same name as your photo. Don't forget, however, to end your file name with ".txt" extension instead of ".jpg"!
Dreamweaver / Frontpage
These products can be very helpful to edit HTML files. They each have a "visual" mode where you can drag and drop pictures right onto the screen. However, using these "visual" modes tends to result in a lot of extra HTML code. If you want to create a true "text" file,
you should use the HTML Code editting mode.
To edit your text file once it is created, simply double-click on the corresponding icon in
Windows Explorer (START - PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - Windows Explorer). Don't forget where you saved you file!
