Editting ID3 Tags for MP3 Files

Now you have a single MP3 file that is almost ready for uploading. But first you must add certain copyright information to the MP3 file. This is important for two reasons. First, it will help the end user’s software categorize and store this MP3 file, should they chose to download it. Secondly, there are certain pieces of information that the High Impact Missions PHP scripts need in order to properly display this file in the download list and the podcasting stream.

There are many programs that allow you to edit the MP3 ID3 tags, many of which are free. Multi ID3 Tag Editor is one such program.

Click "Add" as shown below to bring your new MP3 into the editor.

Once your file is loaded, click on it. Then click on the "ID3 Tags" tab and fill in the information like you see below. Note, you must fill in both the "ID3v1" tags and the "ID3v2" tags. (If you are using a different program to edit your ID3 tags, make sure you fill in everything that is seen below!)

Also note that the "Copy to ID3v2" button will save you some typing by applying your ID3v1 tags to the ID3v2 boxes.

One weird thing about this program, is that the copyright date. When entering the copyright, make sure you include 2 "dummy" characters before typing the date. Notice below, there are two underscore "_" characters? This must be done to make sure that the date is displayed correctly on the audio download page.

Press "Save" when you are finished.

If you have done this correctly, you should be able to hover above the file and see the copyright information you just saved.
